Brookfield is a residential suburb on Melbourne's western fringe, located in the south-western corner of Melton township. The Brookfield-Melton South area is bounded to the north by the Western Freeway, to the east by Toolern Creek, and by the Werribee River-Melton Reservoir and Djerriwarrh Creek in the south and west. Developed from the 1980s, Brookfield includes a residential area south of Brooklyn Road and at the 1996 census had experienced rapid population growth dominated by young families.
