McCormac Place

McCormac Place was located off McGrath Place. Weston Bate notes that Italian names began to appear in this area from 1895, 'prefiguring social changes through migration'. This pattern was also reflected in Cumberland Lane, McGraths Lane, Merritts Lane, Exploration Lane and Sherwood Place. The Melbourne City Mission established a Men's Hostel in the place in the 1950s and in 1961 the place's inhabitants were largely Chinese and Italian.
