This outer western city was created in 1994 by combining parts of the City of Keilor (St Albans, Kealba, Keilor, Sydenham, Taylors Lakes) with much of the former City of Sunshine (Ardeer, St Albans, Sunshine). Brimbank Park is located on the Maribyrnong River at Keilor. An early Brimbank settler, Mary Dodd, is said to have named the location by describing her house as being on the brim of the bank of the Maribyrnong River.
