This outer south-eastern municipality was created in 1994 by amalgamation of the former City of Berwick (less the Doveton industrial area), with parts of the former Cities of Knox (Churchill Park Drive) and Cranbourne (Cranbourne, Cranbourne North, Hampton Park). Lord Casey (1890-1976), Baron of Berwick and City of London, was Australia's Governor-General from 1965 to 1969.
