Donvale

(3111, 20 km E, Manningham City)

A postal district since 1926, Donvale was until 1994 in the City of Doncaster and Templestowe. The name Donvale is said to be a blend of Doncaster and Springvale, a contraction of the names of the roads on its western boundary. Until the middle of the 20th century the district was predominantly a fruit-growing area. Suburbanisation followed increased motor car ownership and the availability of land after orchard subdivision from the 1950s. By the end of the 20th century Donvale was an affluent residential suburb featuring Whitefriars Carmelite Monastery, Donvale Sports Complex, Donvale Retirement Village, Mullum Mullum Creek Linear Park, and educational institutions such as Donvale Christian College, Montessori Early Education Centre, and a campus of Carey Baptist Grammar School.
