Old Tin Shed

Erected in 1906 in Post Office Place at the corner of Elizabeth Street and Little Bourke Street, the Old Tin Shed was intended as a temporary replacement for a previous wooden structure that had served as a telegraph office since the early 1870s. Leased in about 1920, the shed became a city landmark despite persistent calls for its removal. Long-term tenant Allan W. Taylor & Co., motor accessories and tools, vacated the premises by the early 1960s prior to its removal in 1964.
