Queen Victoria Gardens

Opposite the Arts Centre and next to Alexandra Park and Gardens, the Queen Victoria Gardens were created as a setting for Queen Victoria's memorial, which was unveiled in 1907. A memorial to King Edward VII facing St Kilda Road was included later, in front of which is a floral clock comprising 7000 plants, the gift of Swiss watchmakers in 1966. A bandstand by one of two ponds commemorates Janet Lady Clarke, a philanthropist who worked to improve the situation of women. Noted for their lawns and floral displays, these 4.25-hectare gardens contain many artworks, a number of which are contemporary.
