Silvan

(3795, 42 km E, Yarra Ranges Shire)

Silvan is a small community and dormitory suburb of Melbourne at the edge of the Yarra Valley between Lilydale and Monbulk. This small township was known until 1913 as South Wandin. The Silvan Reservoir (1932) serves Melbourne's water-supply needs, and also acts as a tourist attraction and recreation site. The area's deep and fertile soils support intensive agricultural businesses including vegetable- and berry-growing, nurseries and orchards.
