Skye

(3977, 39 km SE, City of Frankston)

Named after the Isle of Skye, birthplace of some early settlers including the Bethune, Beaton and Murdoch families, this area was renamed Lyndhurst South in 1894 after publicity about a local murder but resumed its earlier name in 1964. Essentially a rural district, Skye's western section is rapidly developing into a residential area with pressure from Carrum Downs, while the northern section is expected to grow with the spread of residential areas along the growth corridor that includes nearby Cranbourne.
