Syndal is a locality centred along Blackburn Road between Highbury and Waverley roads. The shopping strip to the north of the railway station includes a hall, originally built for the Syndal Progress Association in 1957. The name comes from a High Street Road farm acquired for judge Sir Redmond Barry's children, born to his devoted Louisa Barrow. The Coleman family, who bought the front section after her death in 1884, retained the house block until 1998.
