Toolangi

(3777, 52 km NE, Yarra Ranges Shire, Murrindindi Shire)

A rural locality in the Great Dividing Range north of Healesville, Toolangi is believed to derive its name from an Aboriginal word for 'stringy-bark tree'. Early industries included timber-milling, which continues, and farming, where suitable land was cleared. In the early 20th century, Poet C.J. Dennis lived at Arden, now restored and open to the public. Toolangi, which also features a potato-research farm and the Toolangi State Forest, is a popular location for fishing and tourism.
