Tootgarook

(3941, 64 km S, Mornington Peninsula Shire)

A beach resort and small residential suburb between Rye and Rosebud, Tootgarook's name derives from one of the earliest cattle stations on the Mornington Peninsula, the Tootgarook run, between Dromana and Rye, taken up by Edward Hobson in 1838. Tootgarook was said to be an Aboriginal word for the 'croaking of frogs'.
