A residential and industrial locality, Upfield is centred around a railway station of the same name in Campbellfield. The Ford Motor Company of Australia is located between the railway line and Hume Highway. The railway line, electrified in 1959, survived threats of closure in the 1980s and 1990s. The name Upfield is descriptive of the former open country in the area.
