Wattle Glen

(3096, 25 km NE, Nillumbik Shire)

Wattle Glen is a partly suburbanised locality between the more densely populated outer suburbs of Diamond Creek and Hurstbridge. Its gullies and hillsides were explored as part of goldmining activities in the mid-1850s, and there was some small-scale mining, but the area remained a rural area of small holdings with some orchards. Balee railway station opened when the Eltham line was extended to Hurstbridge in 1912, and was renamed Wattle Glen when the state school opened in 1922. Wattle Glen has never been a significant township centre.
