Coles Lane, Coles Arcade, and Coles Place, as it has been called at various times, is best known as Cole's Book Arcade, an iconic Melbourne book store. The arcade ran from the Bourke Street Mall to Little Collins Street, between Swanston and Elizabeth streets. The book arcade closed after Edward William Cole's death in 1929, and the strip is now owned by David Jones.
