Opened in 1984 in Coburg, the Anne Sgro Children’s Centre was remarkable for two reasons. It was the first centre established in an industrial neighbourhood, making child care accessible for the first time to the many migrant women who worked in the area. It was also the first time that unions became involved in the campaign for child care services for working women.
