Kings Domain

Established after part of Government House garden was transferred to the public parkland of the Domain in 1933, Kings Domain shares its boundary with the Melbourne Observatory, Shrine of Remembrance and Royal Botanic Gardens. Hugh Linaker, Superintendent of State Parks and Gardens, designed a landscape of trees and sweeping lawns, which was implemented by sustenance workers during the depression. It was completed in 1935 in time for Melbourne's Centenary. The Sidney Myer Music Bowl, La Trobe's Cottage and a number of memorials, including the Pioneer Women's Memorial Garden, are found within these 31 ha of parkland.
