This southern bayside municipality was created in 1994 by merging the former cities of Chelsea and Mordialloc (less Beaumaris) with parts of the former cities of Moorabbin (Moorabbin, Clayton South, Heatherton; parts of Cheltenham, Highett), Oakleigh (Clayton South) and Springvale (Dingley, Braeside, Chelsea Heights, Aspendale Gardens). Kingston Heath Golf Club is located within the city, whose name possibly derives from early squatters, the King brothers.
