Maroondah City

This outer eastern municipality was created in 1994 by merging the former Cities of Croydon and Ringwood with 445 parts of the former City of Doncaster and Templestowe (North Ringwood) and the former Shire of Lillydale (Kilsyth South). Maroondah, said to derive from an Aboriginal word maroona meaning pine trees, is the name of the major highway that traverses the city from east to west.
