Australia's foremost tennis venue and home of the Australian Open Tennis Championships at the Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne Park is set beside the Yarra River on Batman Avenue and is a multipurpose entertainment venue for music, dance and theatre, as well as for other sports such as basketball, equestrian events, boxing and Supercross motorcycling. Originally named Flinders Park, it was completed to Stage One in 1988 at a cost of $94 million. Stage Two, completed in 1995, saw the addition of a central public garden area, a function centre, two further show courts and eight additional match courts. In 2000 the complex was further enhanced with the completion of the Vodafone Arena, including an additional show court and velodrome.
