Orica

Renamed Orica Ltd in 1998 following the local buyout of the shares of the British parent company, Imperial Chemical Industries ANZ (ICI) was formed in the 1928 consolidation of the Australian and New Zealand interests of the British companies Nobel Australia Ltd, Brunner Mond, United Alkali and British Dyestuffs Corporation. Nobel had earlier bought out the family explosives company of James Scott & Co. founded at Deer Park in 1874. Another arm, British Australia Lead Manufacturers, later to become Balm Paints and Dulux, was formed in 1918. Paint manufacturing is now consolidated at Clayton and general chemical production at Yarraville.
