Comprising the area bounded by Kanowna Street, Fort Gellibrand (a 19th-century defence post), the eastern foreshore and the dockyard, Point Gellibrand in Williams-town was named after lawyer and Port Phillip Association member Joseph Tice Gellibrand. The Point Gellibrand Coastal Heritage Park was created in 1998 and includes the historic time ball tower.
