Point Leo

(3916, 75 km SE, Mornington Peninsula Shire)

The surveyor of 'Western Port' in 1841 named this point on the coast Bobbanaring Point, in honour of a Boon wurrung figure. A township, called Balnarring, was planned for this site in 1869, but did not develop. It was only after World War II, when surfing gained popularity, that Point Leo began to develop as a beach resort.
