The Portuguese population of Melbourne mostly comprises arrivals from the 1960s onwards. Less than 20% of the estimated national population of 20 000 Portuguese-born residents live in Victoria, the vast majority of these in and around Melbourne, concentrated in Sunshine, Springvale, Preston and Keilor. Language and culture are maintained through a Saturday school, clubs, community radio programs, festivals and newspapers. The 3672 Portuguese-speakers in Melbourne in 2001 included immigrants from Mozambique, Angola and East Timor.
