Sarah Sands Hotel

This two-storey brick hotel (now known as Bridie O'Reilly's) still stands on the north-west corner of Sydney and Brunswick roads, marking what used to be the beginning of the main road north. It was named after the ship Sarah Sands, which arrived on 20 December 1852 from Liverpool. The date 1846 inscribed on the hotel is the date the ship was launched. The hotel was built in 1854 for one of the ship's passengers, Robert Barry.
