Scienceworks

Located on the site of the historic Spotswood Pumping Station, which ceased operation in 1965, Scienceworks holds Museum Victoria's science and technology collection. Opened in March 1992, it houses an exhibition hall, planetarium, staff office space, activity rooms, conference room, auditoriums, café and book shop, outdoor play areas, barbecue and picnic areas, collections store, pumping station and garage for housing historic steam vehicles. In addition to its fixed and changing exhibitions, the museum offers tours of the restored pumping station, where Melbourne's original sewerage system is explained. In contrast to the static displays of the previous museum, the emphasis at Scienceworks is on interactivity, offering fun and involvement, as well as information and education, to its visitors.
