(3785, 33 km E, Yarra Ranges Shire)
Tremont is a small hamlet in the higher Dandenong Ranges and sits just below One Tree Hill. The locality owes much to the depression-relief programs of the 1890s, whereby a village settlement was located between Tremont and Kallista. A general store was opened around 1900 by W.J. Dunstan. A post office was added in 1918 and the name Tremont ('mountain of trees') suggested by F.J. Treweek, a local landowner.
