Truganina

(3029, 23 km W, Wyndham City, Melton Shire)

Truganina and the neighbouring district of Tarneit are predominantly agricultural districts, with more recent residential development occurring in southern areas around Sayers Road. The township of Truganina was laid out in 1849. Soon there were two churches and a school. In 1968 bushfires destroyed many 19th-century buildings at Truganina. The area features Westbourne and Williamstown Grammar School (1978), Thomas Carr Catholic College (1997) and Werribee Islamic College. The Truganina Cemetery (1865) on Woods Road is the site of endangered flora, including the rare button wrinklewort (Rutidosis leptorrhynchoides).
