Wonga Park

(3115, 28 km E, Manningham City, Yarra Ranges Shire, Maroondah City)

Like other villages in the area in the 1890s, Wonga Park was part of the Village Settlement Scheme. Formerly known as East Warrandyte, then Croydon Eight Hours Village Settlement, the present name derives from an Aboriginal word for native pigeon and has its origins in the 640-acre (256 ha) Wonga Park Cattle Station, formerly on Homestead Road. Orchards were once common in the suburb, which is bounded in the north by the Yarra River. Wonga Park is now primarily residential and features part of the Warrandyte State Park.
