Madame Brussels Lane

Madame Brussels Lane is a return lane off Lonsdale Street between Exhibition and Spring streets. The lane was named after the Melbourne brothel owner, Madame Brussels, who owned 8 high-class brothels during the late nineteenth century.

The Urban Workshop Building, located at 50 Lonsdale Street, was built over land which was consolidated in the 1950s and as a result several laneways were destroyed. The architects revived the former lanes as pedestrian walkways within the foyer of the Urban Workshop Building, including Madame Brussels Lane.
